Beeline achieves 1Gbps download speed in equipment trials

Russian cellco Beeline has achieved mobile download speeds of 1Gbps during technology trials in partnership with Chinese vendor Huawei intended to test the capabilities of its existing LTE equipment.

The test combined five LTE carriers – a total of 55MHz across the 800MHz, 900MHz, 1800MHz, 2100MHz and 2600MHz ranges – and used 256 QAM and four-transmit, four-receive (4T4R) radio operation mode to achieve a peak per-subscriber speed of 1,030Mbps. The trial used a standard base station – Huawei DBS3910 – with a test terminal with aggregation support for five LTE carriers. Beeline’s VP for infrastructure development, Martin Shkop, was quoted as saying of the development: ‘Our LTE development strategy for the next generation, 5G, involves testing and implementing technologies that open up new opportunities for our customers to communicate and get better digital services. This test was conducted with the expectation that there are already devices in the market capable of supporting gigabit speeds.’
