Publishing Date: February 13, 2018

The Chairman, Nigerian Communications Commission, Senator Olabiyi Durojaiye, has reiterated the commitment of the commission to digital revolution.

He expressed optimism that Nigerian would be recognised as one of the great achievers in the telecommunication industry during his tenure.

Durojaiye made this known in Lagos at a book launch to mark his 85th birthday. The event was attended by government officials, politicians, friends, family, professional associates and stakeholders in the telecoms sector.

He explained that one of the mandates of the commission was to create employment opportunities for Nigerian youth through training and empowerment programmes.

The NCC chairman said the commission planned to establish a research institute for Nigerian youths to study special programmes in order that the country could participate actively in the ongoing digital revolution.

“The main target is not only to create employment but put us on the world map among the achievers in the telecommunications industry and global digitisation revolution,” Durojaiye said.

The Executive Vice Chairman, NCC, Prof. Umar Danbatta, described the host as a team leader, adding that he had created harmony between the board and the management.

Speaking at the event, President Muhammadu Buhari, who was represented by the Minister of State for Aviation, Hadi Sirika, congratulated Durojaiye for attaining the milestone in his life and for his contributions to the development of Nigeria.

The National Leader, All Progressives Congress, Chief Bola Tinubu, who was represented by Senator Demola Seriki, described the NCC chairman as an advocate of democracy and good governance, and was willing to sacrifice his life for the country.

The author of the book entitled, ‘Dare to Be Different,’ Dare Babarinsa, described the book as the story of the life of Durojaiye, how he learnt the rudiments of integrity and courage and his sojourn into politics.

According to him, the book tells the story of courage and sterling statesmanship at a period of national crisis.
