Globe Telecom introduces cloud-based WAN for business

Philippine based telco Globe Telecom has launched a fully integrated, cloud-based WAN for businesses, based on Software-Defined Wide Area Network (SD-WAN) technology. The new service is being offered via the telco’s Globe Business unit, noting in an emailed statement that it ‘is designed to allow local enterprises [to] drive rapid growth and achieve international competitiveness as well as bring Globe closer to realising first world connectivity in the country’. According to Globe, by using a corporate data network SD-WANtechnology offers an affordable and easy to deploy option for businesses, while still retaining a secure, reliable, and efficient platform. Chief technology and information officer Gil Genio said that SD-WAN is primarily targeted at business users as it can ‘ensure faster deployment, business agility, and enhanced visibility to empower enterprises to manage their network operations’.

Globe Telecom is trying to grow its fixed (wireline) broadband internet adoption and has rolled out more than one million broadband lines ahead of schedule, placing it at the halfway point of its goal of deploying two million new high speed lines by 2020.
