iPlan joins Argentina’s convergent offers

Buenos Aires’ Internet provider iPlan has announced investment to expand its fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) network and launch an IPTV service.

According to the local telco, during 2018 it will focus on extending the network with an investment of over $25 million. The company intends to end the year with more than 300,000 homes passed in the north of Buenos Aires, tripling the current figures.

As for pay-TV, iPlan intends to launch an IPTV platform in 2019, aiming to complement its offering with triple-play services.

The Buenos Aires telco is the first local player in Argentina to announce its convergent strategy following the new telecom regulation, effective from 1 January 2018.

As a result of the new scenario, the merged Telecom-Cablevisión became the first quad-play provider in the country. In addition, Telefónica and Claro have recently been granted pay-TV licences in some cities.
